The new baby birds are getting bigger everyday, showing some beautiful color now. Since they are still too small to do overnights with their larger cousins in the chicken yard, they are relegated to a warm box in the garage at night where they cuddle all night together. In the morning, as you may imagine, they are ready to get out to the new day (except when that water stuff drips from the sky...then there's no goin' outside!!). They have learned quickly that the food and water are outside so they are anxious for me to open the door. In fact, they are usually quietly waiting for me right outside the kitchen door in the morning just like this (and I'll be happy when they are in their own kitchen with the big birds as you can imagine!!).
Upon opening the outside door, they practice their flying routine while I feed and water the others. They are so funny to watch first thing in the morning practicing their 'big' chicken behaviors. Too soon to tell which are roosters or hens...and truly they don't care at this point...but they will soon enough. Thought you'd enjoy the early morning antics of these rare heritage birds (more about that in another blog).
